What is GC-1 (Sobetirome)?
GC-1, also called sobetirome, is a synthetic thyroid-hormone-receptor agonist. It is distinct from other thyromimetics such as eprotirome and resmetirom.
Mechanism & research focus
The original research demonstrated preferential binding and activation of thyroid receptor β relative to receptor α. This selectivity motivated investigation of metabolic effects while attempting to separate some tissue responses.
What the research covers
The directly verified primary discovery work establishes receptor pharmacology. The developer's published historical account describes progression from animal research into clinical development, but a complete primary human outcomes paper was not verified for this profile.
What remains uncertain
Receptor selectivity does not guarantee absence of cardiac, endocrine or other systemic effects. Historical development reports are not a substitute for a current clinical evidence dossier. Results for different thyroid-receptor agonists cannot establish sobetirome's efficacy or safety, and a catalog product's equivalence is unverified.
The evidence label describes the linked research, not the suitability of a catalog product for use in people. Formulation, identity, purity, and measured content must be assessed separately.
